Tuesday, September 27th- Food Traditions

We're going to continue our discussion of family traditions today. Yesterday, a student said: "Family traditions are what your family does that is different from most families. The special things that bonds your families together."   Using this definition, let's discuss specific traditional food items that are unique to your family.

In your explanation, provide a brief description of the food item, when it's served, who generally makes it, etc. Then, respond to at least one other classmate's response. To receive full credit, your responses have to include the person you're referring to and some sort of CONSTRUCTIVE response.

Yesterday, I discussed how my grandmother traditionally makes anise seed cookies at Christmas time.

Another food item that you'll traditionally find at my family functions is lasagna. But this is no ordinary lasagna...this is my Grandma Theresa's lasagna recipe. And what makes this different than other lasagna...well, besides her secret sauce, my grandmother also includes slices of hard boiled eggs in the layers of her lasagna. When most people hear this, they get totally grossed out, but let me assure you, it's delicious and I love that this is an authentic Italian recipe.

My family loves food, and you'll find us all in the kitchen hovering around the oven waiting for the lasagna to cook. Not only do we hang out in the kitchen waiting for it, it's all the anticipation building up to eating it. And then as we're eating it, we're talking about how delicious it is and we are complimenting my grandmother.

On my moms side of the family we make an animal that we love out of rice crispies, Marshmallows, Chocolate bars, and cinnamon buns as the feet. i know no one does this because who does something as strange and as good as this.

My family has two food traditions that appear at every get-together. The first one, is mud pudding. It's the white part of the ore cookie mixed with cream and crushed up ore cookies in it all mixed together. it's so delicious. The next food is potato casserole. There is cheese, potatoes, sour cream all layered on top of each other. then it is all topped off with Corn Flakes which gives it a mouthwatering crunch. I want some now!!!!

Our traditional food is a a recipe that my great great grandfather came up with. it got carried down through the family tree. My grandpa makes it every year at christmas and other special occations. It has beans, bacon, and a bunch of other special spices. They are called bootleggers. Well i think that is how it is spelled i think.

My mom and my aunt take a hole week before the holidays two make so many of the cream cheese squared it is unbelievable. We top them sometimes with icing and M & M's or oreos. We put separate names in 20 to 25 special ones for each member in the family. They are one of the most delicious things that i have ever tasted.

Its setup where you pretty much make your own taco with all of the toppings you wont you can pick whatever you want on your taco thats on the table.
