Thursday, October 6th

Look closely at these two definitions of the term identity:
  • The fact of being who or what a person or thing is
  • Identity can be defined as the distinguishing personality or character of an individual.
Think about the following statement: A person's name is an important part of his or her identity. Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not? Explain your answer using information from your own experiences.

Then, constructively respond to at least one other classmate's posting.

yes because your name can represent where your family is from.

I dont agree necessarily because a person with the name so to speak Michael doesn't have the same personality as another person named Michael. I name is what you are called, a personality is what makes you.

Yes, I think my name is a good indication of who I am. My first name is MIchelle, but it was supposed to be Jill, but when I was born, my mom said I didn't look like a Jillian. SHe said I looked like my dad's side of the family. My dad's name is Michael so I became Michelle. My maiden name is Matera...which is the actual name of a town in Italy, and I am half Italian. My mom's name is Linda, and my middle name is Lynn.

jordan i totally agree with your statement because someones personality is what makes you....good job

My married name, Matysak, tells people that I am married, which is an important part of who I am.

Sometimes. Like, if your name comes from somewhere/something important in your family, then it's probably an important part of your identity. But if it's just a bland name like "Bob" or something of that sort then it probably isn't a big part other than on your ID card.

mmatysak said...

Brandon...do you mean a literal identity?

Anonymous said...

I agree because if we wouldn't have names nobody would know who the person is.

Anonymous said...

Yes it does. Sometimes a persons name can tell what heritage or religion a person came from and it can also identify if your trying to talk to someone.

I disagree with this statement because, alot of people have the same name, so that would mean they would all have the same personality as someone else. Your actions and how you act makes up your personality.

Anonymous said...

i would agree with this because if you don't have an identity nobody would no who you are or what to call you if they wanted to talk to you

Luis I understand where you're coming from, but what if your name doesn't really have anything to do with your family?

Anonymous said...

i do agree with this statement because your name ia a very important part of your life and it represents you in a lot of ways.

Anonymous said...

i think it is important because that tells alot, u dont walk up to someone and say hey noname u want to kno their name. JTR

So Nikkya and Ray...while a name does provide people with a identity in terms of heritage, it doesn't tell much about personality??

if there were no names for anyone. This world would be crazy in stealing, and disaster. So there for there are names everyone. names tell who you are. they are your true identity. so kind of. you could look like a jimmy or a dave or something else.

I def agree with you Jordan

Anonymous said...

Yes
because your name is apart of you and its important in
your family because your name can be past down like my name is

Anonymous said...

Jordan Anderson said I think it does and doesn't because if some people the name just sounds right with what they look like and how they act but some people look like bobs or something and there name will be jakobe.

Anonymous said...

yes i agree with this statement beacause without a name you are not classified and you are just a nameless soul.

Anonymous said...

i don't really agree with you. jennifer, some people hate there names, and your name mainly represents your identity.

Anonymous said...

thanks Luis, and I also can see where the other opinions are coming from.

Anonymous said...

Chase, I don't really understand what you're saying.

Anonymous said...

Luis-
You need to give some more discription to the statement that you answered

Anonymous said...

i agree chance it would be a disaster

mmatysak said...

so none of you want to be judged based solely on your name?

Anonymous said...

this is jordan that is true luis but i think you need a little more detail

Anonymous said...

Hope, your right about not knowing what to call them or no one would know who you were.

That is true about the no names thing

Anonymous said...

that family's r together

Anonymous said...

taylor i totally agree with you.

People steal and get away with it a lot of the time wether they have names or not. So I don't really agree with the ones saying that without names people would get away with so much.
